Calling from North America to Africa seems a local call.

  • Translation Removal

I have been using Skype with with the translator for a long time now. Three days ago, the translator disappeared. I contacted Microsoft->Skype and they could not tell me any information as to why it was not working, or find anything wrong - the function just disappeared and no one seems to know about it. No information provided online either by Skype or Microsoft. Other people I spoke to, told me that it was not working for them either - it disappeared. Both the messaging and real time call translation vanished. The Translator bot still exists but is not working. I have tried various options and attempted to contact Skype directly about this in various ways, hoping to find someone to talk to directly about this. There is no one to contact about this, and as a last resort, I am hoping this review will act as a catalyst for communication about the translator, with Skype. The service no longer works on iPhone, IPad, Android, or desktop. Notice should have been given if Skype decided to shut down this service - removal without warning really puts users/customers in a bad situation if they use the service for communication on a daily basis. I am not happy with this situation and feel that Skype has unfairly treated users with such a disruptive removal of service. The translator was game changing technology. It allowed instant real time cross-language communication, and the best part for Skype was that there was no competition. Skype conquered cross-language communication and then abruptly removed it without warning. Please bring the translator back. Please bring back the service, or at least provide an alternative for such a service. Do I have any other options at this point? Would installing an older version of Skype work with the translator? More information really needs to be provided.

The features the frustrated me early on in the new design have been mostly ironed out. Skype is working and looking much better. Continue refining and this platform will be the best again. If i may make a suggestion, include group chat with channels like Slack does.

It's kids friendly as I am able to teach kids Sanskrit recital lessons flawlessly! A team of up to around ten kids in a session has been great. The internet speed of various participants do matter, sometimes. But the video chat is a great tool in challenging the distances! Wishing Skype best to keep improving!

I’ve been a user of Skype for the past 4 years, 2 of which exclusively on mobile. The app is functional but never has gotten the actual stability and reliability improvements it’s needed. Both me and the person I’m calling could only be using Skype with secure wifi, and our calls would be glitchy with lagging video and audio, sometimes just straight up cut out a solid minute of talking, and say the WiFi connection is poor when it couldn’t have been better. There is now a new glitch (as of 12/13/18) where if I send a video to someone, the video will turn pitch black and only play the audio. It does have lots of features, but most don’t ever go to actual use in my experience. There’s lots of issues they need to fix, and they just like to hide behind new features before even accepting there was a problem. 3 stars is a very generous rating given all the crap it’s given me.

I’m looking for a new app that acts like an app and not a cell phone. It rings when ever it wants and you can’t disable it shows up on your caller I’d like a cell phone call. What happen to if it’s not open it shouldn’t ring

I’ve been calling different places all over the world and the quality is the same of any local phone call.
